Kumho Tire's CRUGEN HP 71 for sport utility vehicles
has won a prestigious international design award in Germany for the sixth consecutive year.
Korea's leading tiremaker said Thursday that its CRUGEN HP 71 _ a premium, high-performance tire for sport utility vehicles _ received the Red Dot Design Award 2017 in the product design category
The tire has earned much recognition for its design excellence since hitting the market last month, according to company officials. They said Kumho is the first Korean tiremaker to receive one of the world's top three industrial design awards for six straight years. The other two are the International Forum (iF) Design Awards of Germany and the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) of the United States.
The CRUGEN HP71 enables vehicles to achieve more powerful performance and provides a smoother and quieter ride in urban areas, the officials said. The tire is also 20 percent more efficient in abrasion resistance and driving on snowy roads, thanks to its premium, high-quality materials such as a next-generation rubber compound.
The CRUGEN HP71's sidewall, one of the key determinants of tire quality, has used hologram technology for the first time in Korea, giving it a luxurious appearance and refined texture.
“Winning the Red Dot Design Award for the sixth consecutive year shows that the international community recognizes the excellence and competiveness of our industrial designs,” Chung Taek-gyun, head of Kumho Tire's research and development (R&D) division, said.
“Besides CRUGEN HP71's superb design features, it has been attracting keen attention from market analysts and motorists for outstanding performance since its introduction a month ago. We will continue to work hard to position the latest product as a premium tire in Korea and elsewhere.”
The CRUGEN HP71 and other award winners will be on display for a year at the Red Dot design museums in Germany and Singapore.
