LG sets V30 flagship price at mid-900,000 won range

LG Electronics Inc.'s brand new V30 smartphone will come with a price tag in the mid-900,000 won range in its home market, industry sources said Sunday, as it aims to compete head on with other flagships in the second half of this year.

According to mobile operators, the 64 gigabyte version of the phone is expected to come with a suggested retail price of 949,300 won (US$839.3), while the 128 GB model will be 998,800 won.

Initially, market watchers said that with a new processor and dual camera setup, the unit price would exceed the 1 million-won mark, which is the case with its main rival Samsung's Galaxy Note 8, but the South Korean electronics giant has decided to scale back the price to make its phones more price competitive.

The base Note 8 with 64 GB of internal storage is priced at 1.09 million won, while the one with 256 GB of memory is priced at over 1.25 million won.

The unit price is also expected to be lower than the new iPhone that will be unveiled later this month.

The V30 is viewed by many in the industry as LG's best phone to date with some surveys giving it an edge in terms of consumer preference to the highly regarded Note 8, which is currently setting new records in terms of preorders.

The V30 is expected to reach customers here Sept. 21.
