Gochujang (고추장) deonjang (된장) and ganjang (간장 soy sauce) were made and kept in Hang-ari (항아리 earthenware jars) for many months and years to complete the process to ripen.

Dweeungbak restaurant in Sejong City still makes them in the traditional manner as can be seen in 1700 Hang-ari jars.
